ART FOR RECOVERY PROJECT

I've been working on a year long project with Support and Education for Eating Disorders or S.E.E.D. and we have been doing art journaling and making mosaics to restore the mosaic flower bed at Galloways Society for the Blind in Penwortham, Lancashire. Some really great progress for the recovery journey for those with eating disorders, their carers and anyone with IBS. The butterfly symbolises recovery from eating disorders, and fragments of mosaic come together to become whole. It's nice to meet up and chat, sometimes a listening ear and a brew can really change the world! There is an Exhibition at the garden in Penwortham in the Spring when the installation is complete!

Catch up from the Summer!

Here's what I've been up to this summer!
At Brockholes Nature Reserve, I've been teaching:

Pebble Mosaics

Batik

Animal Sculptures

...and Silk Painting

Plus I have been working with Action Factory Community Arts on a few things including the Community Living Room and an arts project for Victoria Fields in Wigan at Bickershaw. Here are some of the mosaics going into an outdoor 3D art coal heritage/nature themed installation....coming soon to you outdoors!

I've also been helping out at the Lancaster Co-housing community to get started with a stained glass mosaic mural of the housing complex along the river as an abstract landscape piece, see how it becomes completed...so exciting watching things grow !

Welcome to a Sensory Garden!

Here's a new sign for Your Housing Group at Penwortham. We had all the local families come in to  help choose colors and ideas of what elements went into the design. Brilliant ideas! I love the ladybirds!

World War 1 Mosaic Posters with St. Matthews CoE School

The Children from the school produced nearly 100 drawings and I had the toughest job to choose some designs, so i decided to blend many ideas into four posters. I also liked the idea that it's not just about the suffering and loss, but about the peace and courage we can carry into the present moment and values shared within the school and elsewhere....

Branch Decorations at Brockholes

Just catching up with classes earlier in the year!
This was am upcycled branch decoration using sustainanle materials.

Aboriginal Batik at Brockholes=Clever Stuff!

Just look at these wonderfully rich works of art! Some of my students sent in pics the finished pieces and so they are so inspiring! It was wonderful being sent a message from a student... "Hi just wanted to say thank you for a great workshop on Monday at brockholes. We had a good time and achieved pieces of art we are very proud of."

Finished Mosaics for the Smart Materials Project

As promised, here are some photos from the Smart Materials project that I helped Nerissa Cargill-Thompson with Bolton at Home. This project incorporates the application of smart materials with arts in the community. So I helped the local community at Lever Gardens making mosaics with smart beads for their garden installation. These beads change color when exposed to UV light (you can see them in the photo below, they look like O's). The nature scene is on display for the local residents at Lever Gardens to enjoy from their window. ;) Beautiful and cheerful!

The project sees local artists joining forces with the University’s smart material researchers to work with local community groups to explore, create and design different applications for smart materials - See more at: http://www.bolton.ac.uk/MediaCentre/Articles/2013/Feb2013-3.aspx#sthash.JEpPZWbT.dpuf
